International

Dear Macula Society International Members,

The Macula Society welcomes Gemmy Cheung, MD, as our newly elected International Member Representative.

The International Committee of the Macula Society encourages collaboration, networking and exchange between US and international members of the Society. We support the mission of the Society by supporting and promoting best clinical practices, innovative research and training of retinal specialists globally. We encourage all qualified retinal specialists internationally to join the Macula Society and participate in joint international retinal conferences and symposiums.

Dr. Cheung's International Committee Newsletter

It is my honor to serve on the International Committee of the Macula Society.

This year, the Macula Society welcomed x new International members, adding the total number of international members to over XXX. The opportunity for international and US members to meet, exchange ideas and collaborate continues to be one of the highlights of the Macula Society. Over the years, the International committee has strived to further enhance the experience for our international members.

During the 47th Macula Society meeting in Palms Springs, the First International Symposium took place under the leadership of Dr. Lihteh Wu. The session opened with a dedication to Dr Gabriel Coscas by Dr Eric Souied, which was followed by Dr. Robyn Guymer’s sharing of her journey to carving out a research career from outside the US. A panel of experts including Dr Usha Chakravarthy, Dr Jay Chhablani and Dr Fernando Arevalo discussed practical tips in navigating the challenges of conducting research.

In addition, the Macula Society continues to have a presence in many international meetings. This year, my home country, Singapore, will be hosting the Asia Pacific Vitreoretinal Society (APVRS) annual meeting. The Macula Society joint session will be highly anticipated at this event.

I would like to invite all our members to actively propose any suggestions to this committee. Finally, I would like to thank Dr Singerman, and the macula society’s continued support for the international committee.

Sincerely,
Gemmy Cheung
